’64, 951 displaced family Kashmir Pandit ‘
Mehboob quoted the date of the Office for assistance established by the government of Jammu and Kashmir in 1990, he said that 44,167 migrant families were officially registered as a fleeing from the valley for security reasons in the 90s. Of these, about 90 % (39,782) families were cashmere pandits. By 2020, the Ministry of the Interior stated that the number of displaced families of Kashmir Pandit increased to 64 951.
In his proposal Mehboob said that every displaced family of Kashmir Pandit should be assigned half the A-channel (one channel = 505.87 m2) of state land in their district of origin, which is according to their willingness to return.
Families whose original houses still exist, but are in a dilapidated or initial condition, targeted financial grants or interest -free loans for structural repairs and modernization should be provided, she added.
She also demanded the establishment of two reserved constituents for the community. “This problem goes beyond politics and touches on the core of our collective conscience itself. Mehboob said that every political party in the Union, regardless of ideology, consistently supported the idea of their return.
“The shared pain of their displacement and the desire to reconcile all weighs us all in the belief that Kashmir can again be a place where communities existed peacefully. To make sense of meaningful progress on this front, an inclusive and phase plan has been attached to your consideration,” she said.
President PDP said the proposal emphasizes the approach of all parties involved and ensures that any politician or plan is rooted in empathy, mutual trust and most importantly, on ground reality.
“I call on your office to start a dialogue -controlled process concerning community representatives, civil society, local leaders and the relevant administrative agencies. Only through inclusive negotiations we can map the future where no community feels in its own land,” LG added.
Mehboob described mass displacement as one of the largest internal migration in independence, which requires complex, justice aimed and sustainable political framework.
“The return of Kashmiro Pandits is not only a demographic or administrative problem, but it is worth the historical justice, reconciliation and restoration of the pluralistic ethos of Kashmir,” she said.
