The IPL 2025 final is up to us and rightly focuses on PBKS and RCB players. It is expected that, like Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rajat Patidar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Josh Hazlewood, they will change in the competition, but two men worked quietly behind the scenes to get their parties to the finals in Ahmedabad.
Ricky Ponting and Andy Flower are considered the legends of the game after their exploitation with Australia and Zimbabwe on the international scene. Both men are pioneers in the cricket world, while Ponting won the world cups and flowers part of the golden generation of Zimbabwe cricket when they went with their feet on their feet with some of the best teams in the world. It wasn’t really a surprise when both men went to coaching.
But their journeys were not similar at all.

Flower launched his journey as a coach and in 2007 worked as an assistant to the English national team. In 2009, Zimbabwa legend became a team director and defeated Australia under his leadership to win ashes and continue at the T20 World Cup. He also played a key role in the production of England in the test team No. 1 and added another ashes to his name. It comes to the world of franchise cricket and was part of some main league from IPL.
He worked in the IPL as an assistant coach for PBKS before becoming the head coach of LSG and led to complete the play -off in 2022 and 2023. 2024 moved to the RCB, but eventually got into play -offs with dream.

Ponting has already won the title of IPL as a coach S Mi back in 2015, but since then it has been a rocky journey for him. With Delhi Capitals, former Captain Aussie created a great environment for the development of young talents such as Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. In 2020 they led them to the final performance and first in the league scene in 2021.
2022 and 2023 were hard for Ponting as a DC coach when he was released after a bad trip in 2024.
This led him to Pandjab, where he got a free hand in the auction and got a player who wanted to create a strong group.
How does Ponting and Flower work?
Ricky Ponting was as successful as PBKS coach in IPL 2025.
So how does Ponting and Flower work as coaches? Shreyas said that coach Aussie is someone who is a great player and his standout is to handle all players the same way. Skipper PBKS feels that players do it positive and make them freedom to go out and express themselves in the field.
“He’s an amazing coach who manages the players exactly and I personally feel that one thing that stands out with him is that he treats everyone as well,” Iyer said when he asked about the former Australian captain.
“This gives real support to each individual, whether junior or senior. When you know the coach is the same, you are positive and get the freedom from him to go there and express the best of his skills,” Shreyas said.
It was seen several times in the season, when Ponting trusted similar to Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh to open up for the pandjab in all the matches and believe others on the side.

For flowers, 2024 was rather a test base that solved the problems before the new cycle. He got a new group and RCB coach created miracles. He also gave the players to go out to the field and make their own decisions, as Mo Bobabat revealed.
“I really enjoyed watching coach Andy this year a little differently, as he did last year. The team changed and the captain changed. We basically share the principle that we want our players to go to the playground and make their own decisions,” Bobat said.
The area where the flower excelled was when getting players and an assignment of roles. Nobody expected Krunal Pandy will be one of their main spinners this season, but he told the versatile that the leadership has always told him that his task is to transfer mostly with the ball.
The same can be said of Suyash Sharma, who has been told about his work. The biggest trusted flower was shown with Rajat Patidar and made him the captain of one of the largest teams in IPL.

As a coach in IPL, your roles are overshadowed by big names in the group. But it wasn’t the case with the ponting when he put the law and said he wanted a full anatomy of the team.
“I made it clear that when I accepted the work of the head coach (with the kings) that I wanted to have almost full autonomy for the way we go for coaching staff and the way we go about the auction strategy, our scouts did a great job,” Ponting said.
For the flower it was about to bring some leaders to the team to help the virtual kohli and most importantly, Patidar.
“Having a number of these leaders in the group will help Rajat, not only Virat, but some of the international experiences we have in the group. And Indian players like Jitesh, Krunal Pandy and Bhuvneshwar Kumar-I think these types of players will be a great support for the young and upcoming captain,” Flower said.
Now that we prepare for the finals, players will be big names under clear lights. But in the excavation, two legends of the game breaks down plans on their part in their own way and try to obtain this elusive IPL title for its franchise.
