As a classroom across the state full of children’s shivers and the smell of fresh books on Monday, she was a six -year -old girl from Afghanistan who captured her heart in Kottayam.
Behsa Karim gripped her new school bag and dressed in a sharp yellow chess and entered the government’s lower elementary school, Mudiyoorrkra, with a wide eyes and an eager smile. This bright young girl, originally from Herat in Afghanistan, is one of the 16 students who joined I this year.
Behsa is the daughter of Mohammad Fahim Karimi, a 33 -year -old research scientific scientist in managerial studies at Mahatma Gandhi (MGU) and Ellaha Zahir. Although her roots lie in the harsh landscape of Afghanistan, Behs early learning began here in Kottayam, where she also participated in the preschool school.
As a result, on Monday, she became the star of the ceremony of re -opening the school. This is the first time that the school welcomed a student from another country and the teachers were excited. Sindu director K. and her team greeted Behsu with open arms. She soon explored her class and exchanged the shy giggling with new friends and adapted to the rhythm of her new school life.
“Malayalam speaks more than me,” Fahim laughed. “Even though I came here five years ago, I hardly know ten words in this language. But Behsa will not have trouble picking up nuances. He’s already at home,” he said
Fahim first arrived in Kottayam in 2021 to perform his postgraduate study. Now he is a research scientist at MGU, still has another two years of research and the family is currently settled near Thellakom. During this time, Kottayam will be home to Karim’s family and for Behs this school will be its world.
On the first day, she received her textbooks, uniforms and school bags from school. While Fahim and Behsa are here on student visa, her mother and two -year -old sister Behar are on addicts.
