A suspected IED blast injured two
A mysterious blast, suspected to have been triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), left two injured at an under-construction building in East Bengaluru’s Pulakeshinagar on Tuesday.
The injured Allauddin, a construction worker from Assam, is said to have lost a finger in the explosion. Suraj, a security guard from Uttar Pradesh, escaped with minor injuries. He is being questioned by the police.
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh quoted injured persons as saying that the blast was triggered after one of them pressed the button of a flashlight. However, it is not clear whether the flashlight exploded or was used as the triggering mechanism of the IED.
Another senior officer privy to the development told The Hindu that small wires were also recovered from the site and sent for forensic examination. “From the looks of it, it has all the characteristics of an IED assembly, but that can only be confirmed after the FSL report comes out,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Singh said the Internal Security Division (ISD) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) were being kept in the loop as they needed to find out the modus or “method used” and exactly what happened.
