The Pakistan Cricket Board has refused permission for the over-50 team to play in India
The Pakistan Cricket Board has rejected the over-50 team’s request to participate in the Masters International Cricket World Cup hosted by India in January next year.
Pakistan won the last edition of the tournament held in Sri Lanka last year, but this time the management informed the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association that they are not allowed to travel and play in India.
“We have informed the organizers of our withdrawal from the World Cup so that they can arrange a replacement team,” Fawad Ijaz, who heads the PVCA, said on Wednesday.
Ijaz said the organizers and the host country had assured the PVCA of granting visas to their team and ensuring a high level of security, after which they sought permission from the PCB and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs to participate.
Ijaz revealed that Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the PCB, informed them that he is not allowed to play in India.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation also recently refused to travel to India to play in the Asian Champions Trophy and was replaced by Bangladesh.
Due to strained relations, Pakistan and India only play cricket against each other in multinational events and at neutral venues.
