The cricket control council in India (BCCI) rejected the claim that the decision to move the Play -off IPL 2025 and the latest matches from Kalcata was politically motivated. The tournament, which was suspended due to increased tension between India and Pakistan, restored a week later and was extended to 3 June.
On Monday, BCCI Vice -President of Rajeev clarified that overwhelming and relocation of key matches was managed purely concerns about the weather and logistics challenges, not political considerations.
Play -off IPL were originally scheduled for hosting in Hyderabad and Kolkata. However, after the renewal of the tournament, Play -offs were moved to New Chandigarh (Mullanpur) and Ahmedabad. The last, originally scheduled for May 25, was postponed until 3 June. Play -Off began on May 27, with 1 qualifier and the eliminator took place in Mullanpur without any weather disturbance.
On 1 June, however, a 2 -class qualifier between Kings Pandjab and Indy Bombje was delayed by two hours due to rain in Ahmedabad. This caused criticism in part Fans who questioned the justification that moved after the match from CalcuttaEspecially because the weather conditions in Ahmedabad have also proven to be unpredictable.
“People should not look for any policy here, matches that have been shifted. This decision was not politically motivated,” Shukla told the news agency or. He explained that if IPL continued according to its original schedule, without interruption caused by the conflict in India-Pakistan, the final took place in Calcutta 25 May and Play-Off in Hyderabad.
However, with a revised schedule, weather forecasts for Calcutta have become an important problem. “The transmitter also said that the weather in Calcutta is expected to be bad in these days, probably a collision, the match can be washed and suffered great losses. They asked for a place where the collision is less likely,” Shukla said.
He also explained that several places were evaluated, including Delhi, Lucknow, Chennai, Bengaluru, Calcutta, Chandigar and Ahmedabad. Weather reports suggest that the collisions were least likely in Chandigarh and Ahmedabad, which led to the decision to move matches to these cities. “It wasn’t just about Calcutta. We had to change many times in the past.
This step caused criticism from the government of West Bengal. On Sunday evening, the State Sport Minister Aroop Biswas repeated the accusation of political influence in the change of place.
“Previously, I asked the media during a press conference on political motivations of Play -off relocation and final matches from Eden Gardens. Recent development further explained this problem,” Biswas said in a statement.
Over the years, the finalists of the previous edition have always hosted Play -off and the final of the following edition.
