Visiting lecturers have not yet received the increase in honorarium announced in the budget

Visiting lecturers in government arts and science colleges in Tamil Nadu are still waiting for the announcement of the Tamil Nadu budget government regarding the increase in their honorarium.

Ahead of the festival season, the guest lecturers hoped that the government would take steps to waive the hike, which would benefit them and their families. On 24 August, while presenting the application for grants for the ministry, the Minister for Higher Education announced in the assembly that the honorarium for visiting lecturers would be increased by ₹5,000 to ₹35,000.

In response to several petitions filed recently by CMOs seeking to know the status of the notification, the higher education department replied that the queries have been submitted to the government for careful consideration and that the increased consolidated remuneration will be paid after receiving the government order.

A total of 8,741 guest lecturers are working in 181 government colleges and seven government colleges. If guest lectures at technical and polytechnic colleges are included, the number rises to 9,646.
