‘Pay community dividend’: Donald Trump tells companies as backlash against US data centers grows | Today’s news
US President Donald Trump has suggested that data center companies pay a dividend to the community to make it popular. In a post on Truth Social, Trump also pointed out that when the financial deal is done, “data centers that were very unpopular in a certain area became extremely popular.”
“If companies want their data centers to be popular, pay the community and/or individuals within the community a ‘dividend,'” he said.
Trump’s comments come as massive data centers across the United States face fierce opposition from local communities who fear their key resources, such as water and electricity, will be prioritized for companies to build AI infrastructure.
In his social media post, Trump also pointed out that large data centers have been mandated to generate their own electricity and transfer or sell any excess back to the local community or grid.
