With a significant technological upgrade, the Karnataka Transport Department has completed the supplier, which proposes and produces smart cards for driving licenses (DLS) and vehicle registration certificates (RCS). These cards will contain built -in chips and QR codes that offer improved durability, increased data security and easier verification processes.

Transport officials revealed that the selected company is expected to receive an official work order within 15 days. The new smart cards will replace the current polyvinyl chloride cards (PVC), which have been used for years. These advanced cards are considered to be a forward jump in the modernization of transport documentation, combining robust materials and secure data storage methods.

“Smart cards will be made using polycarbonate, a high -degree material famous for their strength and resistance. In addition to the built -in chip and QR code, the cards will include laser text to prevent and fade in PVC cards.

Officials stressed that Karnataka is coping with several other Indian states, such as Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh, which have already introduced similar systems of smart cards for their traffic documents.

“The Smart Dl Store Up To 25 Distinct Data Fields, Including The License Holder’s Name, Photograph, Date of Birth, Blood Group, Mobile Number, Address, Validity License, and Emergency Contact. Similarly, The Upgraded RC Will Disportial Vehicle Registration Number, Registration Date, Validity, Chassis and Engine Numbers, and Owner Details on the front.

The built -in QR code will allow quick digital access to basic information about the user of police and transport officials during the inspections, eliminating the need for manual document checks. For more detailed data, authorized staff can use a reserved chips reader to simplify the procedures in the event of a traffic violation, accident or theft of a document.

According to officials, printing and production will maintain consistency and quality on all cards, printing and production will be centralized at the Commissioner of the Commissioner in Bengalur. “This centralized approach will help ensure that all intelligent cards follow uniform security and design standards. It also streamlines logistics, reduces delay and ensures faster delivery to candidates throughout the state,” the official explained.
