
President Asian Development Bank (ADB) Masato Kanda announced that AdB will invest $ 10 billion in Indian urban infrastructure for five years.
The aim of this investment is to transform the urban infrastructure throughout India, including the extension of the metro, the new regional corridors of the fast transit system (RRTS) and urban services, the ADB said in a statement.
“Cities are growth engines,” Mr. Kanda said after meeting with the premiere of Narendra Modi. “ADB will mobilize capital, accelerate the solution of supplies and a scale that maintains the Indian urban economy in motion, and people are doing well on their way to Vikit Bharat @ 2047,” he added.
Masato Kando arrived in India last week and, after becoming President of Adb, described his official state visit.
These proposed funds include sovereign loans, private sector financing and third -party capital led by Urban Challenge (UCF), which is a government initiative announced in the Union 2025 budget.
ADB announced a $ 3 million obligation in technical assistance in designing banking projects and strengthening the capacity of states and city local authorities.
More than 40% of the population are expected to be placed across the country by 2030.
ADB has worked with more than 110 cities in 22 countries on projects related to water supply, hygienic, housing and solid waste management, with an active urban portfolio includes 27 $ 5.15 billion loans.
As far as urban transport is concerned, ADB has committed £ 4 billion for metro projects and RRT, covering 300 kilometers in eight cities for decades, including Delhi – Meerut RRT, Mumbai Metro, Metro, Chennai Metro and Bengaluru Metro, and providing access to Couller.
In addition, ADB plans to invest in skills development programs through the Program for Modernization of the Industrial Training Institute with the motif of strengthening the manufacturing sector, stimulating the growth of the private sector and creating jobs.
During her visit, Kanda met with the Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss the expansion of the metro network, including the development of transit (TOD), the promotion of rural prosperity, roof solar capacities and UCF operation.
He also met the Minister for Housing and the City Affairs Manohar Lal to outline further steps to direct private capital to urban projects.
