River cleaning activist Bittu Tabahi is angry after one dustbin was stolen; he kept it close to the river— Watch his video message | Today’s news

Environmental activist Surendra Singh Choudhary, popularly known as Bittu Tabahi, expressed his disappointment after one of the two dustbins he had installed along the banks of the Ajnar river in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district went missing.

Tabahi shared a video on Instagram showing him placing two dustbins near the riverbank to encourage people to dispose of waste properly. However, upon returning to the site, he discovered that one of the bins had been stolen.

The incident comes as Choudhary continues to work to keep the river and its surroundings clean. The return of plastic waste and other litter along the banks highlighted the challenges of maintaining cleanliness even after the clean-up drive.

In another video, he showed plastic bags and other waste piling up along the riverbank, despite his months-long efforts to clean up the polluted waterway in Biaora.

Who is Bittu Tabahi?

Bittu Tabahi gained attention by going largely single-handedly to clean up the polluted Ajnar River in Biaora.

A B.Sc. student Surendra Singh Choudhary started cleaning the river on January 26, Republic Day, after he noticed garbage and an odor during visits to a nearby temple. Concerned about the state of the river, he decided to take action himself.

Starting with a shovel, he continued to remove waste from the river with no budget for machinery, despite facing problems including infections and encounters with snakes.

Surendra Singh Choudhary documented his work on social media, sharing before-and-after visuals of the river that attracted widespread attention. His efforts also made the local municipal authorities take notice and initiate measures to improve the area.

Why did Bittu Tabahi place the dustbins near the river?

The two bins were intended to encourage visitors to manage their waste responsibly rather than littering it along the riverbank. Keeping the river clean requires not only removing existing waste, but also preventing the accumulation of fresh waste. Public cooperation and responsible waste disposal are still important for the protection of the waterway.

Choudhary’s latest video highlights the need for continued efforts to maintain the Ajnar River after cleaning and discourage littering along its banks.
