Nepal Bans Indian Priyagold Biscuits After FSSAI Flags Food Safety Violations | Today’s news

Nepalese authorities have banned the import, sale and distribution of Priyagold biscuits manufactured by Surya Food and Agro Ltd in India.

Nepal’s Food Technology and Quality Control Department on Monday issued a notice restricting the import, sale and distribution of Priya Gold biscuits manufactured by India’s Surya Food and Agro Ltd, terming the product substandard.

India’s food regulator FSSAI has initiated legal proceedings to prosecute Surya Food & Agro for using cattle feed bran in the production of Priyagold biscuits and other serious violations.

While conducting an inspection of Surya Food and Agro, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) noted serious deficiencies in food safety and hygiene, the authority said.

The FTQCD has banned the import and sale of Priyagold biscuits following a notice published by FSSAI, which has also suspended the license of Surya Food and Agro.

The decision to ban the Priyagold biscuit was taken after a virtual emergency meeting initiated by the union’s director general Sanjeev Kumar Karna keeping in mind the safety of human health and consumer protection, the notification said.

The ministry has called upon all concerned authorities, traders and consumers not to import the biscuit further and to stop its sale and distribution.

The ministry has also asked the authorized importer and grocers to immediately withdraw the products from the market in case of stocks.
