The Dasara Pet Show attracted a large crowd, especially youth and women, at the JK Grounds in Mysuru on Sunday, with hundreds of dogs and cats of various breeds catching the attention of visitors.

Organized by the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department, the event featured around 702 dogs and 52 cats owned by pet lovers from Mysuru and neighboring districts including Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Hassan.

The organizers listed 55 dog breeds with awards in various categories. Five dogs were shortlisted for the Best in Show championship.

German Shepherds, Lhasa Apsos, Beagles, Shih Tzu, Doberman Pinschers, Poodles, Great Danes, Rajapalayams and Pugs were among the breeds exhibited in the dedicated enclosures. Dogs of unrecognized breeds could also participate. The show saw a 20% increase in attendance over last year.

Pet lovers, especially youngsters, were seen handling two or three dogs at a time while several visitors clicked photos at the event’s photo booth.

Sushmitha, a pet lover from Mysuru who has seven dogs at home, said she likes spending time with the dogs, who are known for their loyalty. Chethan, a high school student from KG Koppal, also brought his pet to the show.

Information on pet care, dog breeding and rabies prevention was displayed on LED screens to raise public awareness.
