The traditional Gujarati and Rajasthani folk dance ‘Dandia Raas’ unites people and encourages them to participate in ‘Dasara navaratri’ celebrations with religious fervor, Vizianagaram President Jyoti Bachhawat’s Marwari Women’s Wing said on Sunday.

Along with association general secretary Reema Kothari and leader Chanchal Jain, she attended the ‘Dandia Raas’ celebrations at Thoshniwal Buildings in Vizianagaram.

Speaking to the media, she said, “Dancing with wooden sticks brings joy to the participants. It also reminds people of the nine-day battle of Goddess Durga with the demon Mahishasura.”

The event was attended by 500 families and is to continue in the following days.
