Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) has decided to launch public campaigns and discussions to highlight some of the changing trends in the public health sector in the state. Earlier, a seminar was held in Kozhikode on Sunday (October 18, 2026).

KP Aravindan, a public health expert, opened the event with a talk on private and foreign investment in health in Kerala and possible alternatives. TP Mubarack Sani, Chairman of the KSSP Health Subject Committee, spoke on insurance and public health. Academician and author TP Kunhikannan presided over the event.

The seminar participants pointed out that high morbidity, rise in civilization diseases and increase in elderly population have led to high cost of treatment in Kerala. Private financial capital has been buying up hospitals big and small, watching people’s search for health and their willingness to spend more money on health care needs. But they argued that the Union government, which was supposed to protect the interests of the people, was serving the needs of finance capital, which was investing heavily in sectors such as health insurance, pharmaceuticals, laboratories, medical equipment and hospitals. KSSP activists also alleged that the government machinery has failed to ensure availability and quality of even essential medicines.
