A leopard trapped in a cage in Akathethara.

The Keralam Forest Department on Saturday trapped a four-year-old female leopard that was repeatedly spotted near houses in Maithri Nagar, Cherad, in Akathethara panchayat. The leopard was caught in a cage set up near a residential area following complaints from residents about its presence and the loss of domestic dogs. He was taken to Dhoni Wildlife Health Center for examination and observation.

The forest veterinary team examined the leopard. Forest officials said he will remain under veterinary care while his health and behavior are monitored. Residents of Maithri Nagar in Ward 3 of Akathethara panchayat approached the panchayat seeking action to address the menace. Street lights were installed in the area and the forest department was requested to intervene.
