Man arrested for smuggling ganja in government bus in Katpadi

A 33-year-old man was arrested after police seized 10 kg of ganja from his bag on board a government bus in Christianpet village on Sunday.

Police said the arrested person has been identified as S. Ganesh Kumar, a native of Anupparpalayam in Tiruppur district. He was traveling in a government bus going to Vellore from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

The bus stopped at a check post near Katpadi for checking the vehicle. Cops checked the commuters’ luggage and found contraband in Ganesh Kumar’s bag.

Initial investigations revealed that Ganesh Kumar obtained ganja from agents in Chittoor to sell among industrial workers in cities like Coimbatore, Tirupatur, Erode and Salem. A case has been registered by the Katpadi police. He was lodged in the Vellore Central Jail.
