The first plantation show was inaugurated as part of the final event of the annual Summer Festival in Nilgiris in Kattery Park near Coonoor on Friday.
Despite the bad weather, the Ministry of Horticultural and Plantation Crops established exhibits representing the traditional lifestyle of agricultural communities from Tamil Nadu, with thousands of tourists also visit the park on their way to Coonoor and Udhagamandalam.
The Gardening Department said the plantation exhibition was organized to show the tea and coffee industries in Nilgiris and also emphasize the extent for growing plantation crops such as cashew, coconut, palmyra, cocoa, oil palm and ARECA nut.
Plantation crops were used in exhibits that depicted the lifestyle of villagers involved in agriculture and agriculture. Cultural events were also organized as part of the Plantation Show exhibition, and the ministry announced that prizes and prices will be distributed to farmers of planting crops in four different categories after completion of the shows on Sunday (June 1, 2025). This year, Plantation Show will signal the end of the summer festival season in Nilgiris.

Tourist sites will reopen
After the rain, which influenced parts of Udhagamandalam, Gudalur, Kundha and Coonoor, in Nilgiris in the last week, the forest department announced on Friday the reopening of several Coonoor tourist sites, with Lamb’s Rock and Dolphin’s nose among them.
The district administration said that from Thursday evening to Friday morning via Nilgiris, an average of 30 mm rain was recorded.
