Police investigate suspects with similar crime patterns in Chevelle murder-cum-robbery case
A day after the brutal murder and robbery of a 48-year-old woman in the city of Chevella, the police launched an investigation into the perpetrators of similar crimes and are investigating suspected acquaintances of a similar modus operandi.
The victim, identified as Erukali Maisamma, a resident of Dharamsagar village in Chevelle, was found lying in a pool of blood on a government plot in Erlapally village along the Chevella-Shankarpally road on Wednesday.
According to the police, unidentified assailants killed Maisamma and cut off her legs to steal the silver anklets she was wearing.
Police officials said this is the first such case reported in the Chevella area. However, investigators have identified several accused persons who were previously involved in similar robbery cases in different areas. Some of them, the police said, are currently on bail and have now come under the scanner.
The teams conduct background checks on these suspects and also examine the victim’s daily movements and interactions with people known to her.
Further investigation is underway.
