Medical reimbursement claims are now settled in a month, says NTR Vaidya Seva Trust

The Andhra Pradesh Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare has taken steps to speed up the processing of medical reimbursement claims, which used to take more than a year.

In a statement on Saturday (Oct 17, 2026), NTR Vaidya Seva Trust CEO AAL Padmavathi said measures such as appointment of doctors were taken last year, reducing the claim processing time to one month.

She said a dedicated online system is being developed to make it easier for employees and retirees to submit, review and process medical reimbursement claims. Detailed discussions are underway with relevant ministries to introduce this system, she said.

NTR Vaidya Seva Trust receives more than 4000 medical reimbursement bills every month. Currently, 1,500 bills are reviewed by the Trust. Officials keep applicants updated on the status of their applications via WhatsApp, she said, adding that the aim is to review the bills within a month of receiving them.

Ms. Padmavathi said about 41,276 pending bills, including those received online and offline, have been processed so far. The total value of the accounts is about ₹ 152.95 crore.

The number of bills has increased since the issuance of a Government Order (GO), which allows 28 organisations, including government bodies, universities, autonomous institutions, associations and boards of trustees, to claim reimbursement of medical expenses.

Talking about the measures the government is taking to ensure round-the-clock medical services for government employees, pensioners and their family members, Ms. Padmavathi said that while ₹ 40 crore was released for hospitals under the Employees Health Scheme (EHS) in October, another ₹ 50 crore would be released soon.
