Political Intentions Behind ED Case Against Pinarayi Vijayan: MV Govindan

Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) State Secretary MV Govindan has said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) letter implicating Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan and others is a false case without any evidence. After inaugurating an extended meeting of the Kollam district committee, he said that such baseless allegations do not stand in law.

He alleged that the UDF government, led by Chief Minister VD Satheesan, is colluding with the ED, which is handling the case with clear political motives. Pointing to the track record of the ED across the country, Mr. Govindan noted that out of around 2,000 cases registered by the agency so far, only 54 have gone to trial. Regarding the apex court’s order to register the FIR, Mr. Govindan clarified that the appeal body is the state government and further action will be taken after a thorough examination of all aspects of the bench’s decision.

In his speech, the CPI(M) state secretary also defended the KIIFB and said the absurd numbers cannot hide the developmental milestones achieved by Keralam. “KIIFB has become capable of managing development projects worth ₹1 lakh crore, which is a model for the entire country. Keralam cannot rely only on budgetary allocations provided by the Center and KIIFB has provided the necessary funds for several visionary projects,” he said, adding that any attempts to dismantle KIIFB would derail Kerala’s future development.
