Tamil Nadu CM Vijay pays tribute to Tyagi Sankaralinganar on his death anniversary

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Tuesday (October 13, 2026) paid tributes to Tyagi Sankaralinganar on his death anniversary and recalled his contribution to renaming Madras State as Tamil Nadu.

In a post on X, Mr. Vijay said that Sankaralinganar had sacrificed his life after observing a 76-day hunger strike through peaceful means, with his main demand being the renaming of the state as Tamil Nadu.

Without giving up his principles and pride in self-governance of the Tamil country, he proved that the identity of the Tamil people is bigger than life itself. His unparalleled sacrifice deserves to be written in the history pages of Tamil Nadu and India, Mr. Vijay said.
