Mysuru will become the headquarters of the South Karnataka postal region

In a major development for Mysuru, the Union government has given in-principle approval to shift the headquarters of the South Karnataka postal region from Bengaluru to Mysuru following the efforts of Mysuru-Kodag MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.

Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia conveyed the decision to Mr. Yaduveer Wadiyar in an official letter dated October 7, acknowledging the MP’s earlier representation seeking the relocation of the regional headquarters.

In his communication, the Union Minister said that the Ministry of Posts has looked into the matter as part of its ongoing efforts to redesign and optimize its administrative structure. The proposal to shift the headquarters from Bengaluru to Mysuru was found justified and approved in principle, a press release from the MP’s office said.

The minister further specified that the move will take place after the necessary formalities have been completed, including the identification and availability of suitable premises for the seat of the regional office.

Mr. Yaduveer Wadiyar took up the matter with the Union Government through his letter dated 7 August 2026, emphasizing the importance of bringing key administrative institutions closer to Mysuru and strengthening the city’s role as a regional administrative centre.

The decision marks an important step towards decentralization of administrative functions and bringing the main regional government office to Mysuru. The relocation is expected to increase the administrative importance of the city and improve accessibility for stakeholders in the entire South Karnataka postal region, the MP said.

Mr. Yaduveer Wadiyar expressed his appreciation to Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and the Department of Posts for examining the proposal and agreeing it in principle.

He reiterated his commitment to continue initiatives that strengthen Mysuru’s infrastructure, expand its institutional presence and promote balanced regional development across the Mysuru-Kodagu constituency.

The MP’s office said it would continue to work with the authorities concerned to facilitate the remaining formalities and eventual relocation of the seat to Mysuru.
