YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has welcomed the AP High Court’s order directing the state government to hand over the custodial death case of Gade Sai Krishna to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and pay ₹25 crore as compensation to his mother within four weeks.
In a post on social media, he described the verdict as a “slap in the face” of the Chandrababu Naidu government and alleged that the capital’s police had committed a heinous crime without showing any remorse.
The YSRCP has demanded a CBI probe into the case and a comprehensive probe into the role of senior officials, including the Director General of Police and Vijayawada Police Commissioner, in the incident, it said.
The former Chief Minister said Mr. Chandrababu Naidu should have ensured an independent inquiry. Instead, he claimed, the government set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under its control to cover up the facts.
He said the government was responsible for the alleged lapses in the investigation and for not thoroughly probing the role of senior officials, adding that the SIT should not become a shield to protect the accused.
The CBI must state the full facts and clearly identify responsibility so that anyone involved in the crime can be brought to justice, he said.
