A billboard with the name of Thanjavur Railway Junction in Hindi was removed following protests
On October 8, the railway authorities removed a sign in Hindi at the second entrance at the Thanjavur railway junction after various organizations opposed it.
Tamil organizations have called for a demonstration at the intersection on Thursday. However, when the issue was brought to the notice of railway junction authorities on Wednesday evening, officials said that action would be taken on Thursday after consultation with senior officials. Meanwhile, the DMK registered its protest and demanded immediate removal of the name board in Hindi.
On 8 October, a group of DMK cadres staged a demonstration at the junction premises condemning the placement of a name board in Hindi at a prominent place. Thanjavur MP S. Murasoli visited the junction on Thursday while railway officials were busy removing the name board in Hindi.
The Left-Handed Common Platform (LCP) thanked Southern Railway for removing the name board. Hanging a name board in Hindi at the second entrance portico, where a replica tower of the Great Temple was built, was an act of Hindi imposition, the statement claimed.
