The Indian National Highway Office (Nhai) will build a viaduct or bridge, which will replace the collapsed section of the National Motorway-66 in Kooriyad near Tirurangadi in Malappuram.
Regional Officer Nhai Babu Lal Meena said that the bridge has appeared with the only remedial measure to solve the failure of 276 meters of the elevated highway in Koriyad.
He added that a 400 -meter -long bridge connecting the underpass in Kooriyad with one in the middle of an unpeeled field would be built. “It will be an integrated structure,” he said.
Mr. Meena said that the supplier KNRCL agreed to complete the work within four months. “It’s raining hard now. Everything must be done very carefully,” he said.
The Independent Technical Committee explored the collapse of the section 21. May two days after the incident and submitted a Nhai report. The report stated that the collapse was the result of soil failure in weight bearing.
He agreed that there was a forfeiture, Mr. Meena said that the water was penetrating the unfinished part of the waterfront, putting too much pressure on the ground and forcing it to retreat. The quality of the soil was not carefully assessed, the official Nhai, who demanded anonymity, admitted.
According to experts, the viaduct will be four times more expensive than the waterfront. They said the waterfront was widely used in the Malappuram district to save cost.
