The Telangana Pradesh Congress Seva Dal on Monday (October 5, 2026) staged a one-day satyagraha at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, alleging that constitutional institutions and democratic values are under threat due to the actions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government.

The protest was led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Seva Dal President Middela Jitender, who demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Government Social Welfare Adviser V. Hanumanth Rao also participated in the Satyagraha.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Jitender alleged that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was being used to remove the names of eligible voters, especially those from the poorer sections of society. He argued that this performance undermines the voting rights of citizens and poses a serious threat to the democratic process.

The Congress leader accused the Election Commission of not functioning independently and alleged that it acted in a manner that benefited the ruling BJP at the Centre. He claimed that the ÚVK did not remain impartial and weakened the constitutional spirit by allegedly supporting the government’s agenda.

Mr. Jitender also launched a campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that their policies and actions undermine democratic institutions and constitutional values. He argued that both leaders had lost the moral authority to continue in office and should step down.

Reaffirming the Congress’s commitment to Gandhian principles, Mr. Jitender said the Seva Dal would continue to defend democratic rights through peaceful and non-violent means. He warned that the party, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Gouda, would further intensify its agitation against what it called anti-people politics.

The protest witnessed the participation of a large number of Seva Dal leaders and workers from across the state, including members of the state executive, district presidents, constituency presidents and mandal level office bearers, who extended their support to the Satyagraha and expressed concerns about the SIR process and the functioning of the Election Commission.
