The expert team continues to inspect the Polavaram project on the second day

International expert Sean Hinchberger on Thursday continued his second inspection of the Polavaram irrigation project along with officials from the central and state water resources departments.

After inspecting Gap-1 and Gap-2 of the diaphragm wall on the first day, the team focused on the borrowed earth used for Earth-cum-Rock Fill (ECRF) dam work.

The team investigated soil storage areas and inquired about the locations from which the soil was collected and the quality tests that were carried out before it was used. Officials informed the expert that the material was used only after certification by the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) and internal quality checks.

Later, Central Water Commission Chief Engineer Sarabjit Singh Bakshi presided over a review meeting where officials explained the ECRF works, retaining wall construction and drainage plans through a presentation.

Meanwhile, the CSMRS expert team completed engineering tests at the project site, including an evaluation at Gap-2, to investigate the ability of the rock-filled section to withstand water flow conditions.
