Sooryavanshi was among the Indian sportspersons felicitated by PM Modi in Delhi on Thursday following the country’s 2026 Asian Games campaign. The 15-year-old cricketer was part of the Indian men’s team that won the gold medal in Tokyo.

During his address to the contingent, PM Modi highlighted how teenagers as young as 15 are making it big on the international stage and winning medals for India. His observation brought a smile to Sooryavanshi’s face as he listened to the Prime Minister.

“This time in the Asian Games, there were many players in the Indian team who were just 15 to 17 years old. At such a young age, these players have boosted the country’s pride with their spectacular performances. They have won the hearts of the countrymen. This shows that age is not the limit for success. In sports, starting at a young age becomes another advantage,” PM Modi said.

“Therefore, it is our endeavor to identify talent in sports at a young age. For children between the ages of 5 and 15, we are particularly focusing on identifying sports talent and training it. In the coming years, thousands of new players will get the opportunity to progress through Khelo India and Emerging Khelo India,” added PM Modi.

During his speech, PM Modi heaped praise on the contingent for bringing glory to the nation. He had a special mention for the female athletes who brought home the most medals during the Games.
