Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy and Superintendent of Police A..R. Damodar said on Thursday that cash in excess of ₹10,000 carried by individuals during the election period will be confiscated at check posts. The money would be refunded only after the owners’ documents are presented.
Addressing the media, Mr. Ramsundar Reddy said, “The rule would come into effect immediately to prevent the circulation of unaccounted money during elections.”
He asked businessmen to use bank transactions for their daily needs and cooperate with the government.
Mr. Damodar said checkposts would be set up on various routes and borders of the district during the municipal, parshad and panchayat elections. “Nearly 20,000 people were tied up after the police assessed their past behavior and involvement in previous elections,” he said.
Meanwhile, the district administration hopes that the State Election Commission (SEC) will postpone the Vizianagaram mayoral election to October 29 from the scheduled date of October 28 as officials and employees will be busy with the annual Sirimanotsavam festival on October 27, 2026.
Vizianagaram Joint Collector Sedhu Madhavan said that the Vizianagaram Utsavalu scheduled for October 25 and 26 will go ahead as planned as arrangements have already been made for the events.
