Border Security Force (BSF) staff in the Western Assam district in South Salmara-Manstachar, who crossed India on Tuesday (May 27, 2025) in the morning.
The incident occurred when the BSF staff allegedly tried to deport 14 Bangladeshi people who found that they were illegally staying in India.
Eyewitnesses said that an attempt at infiltration led to an argument between BSF staff and their counterparts on the other side of the international border – Bangladesh border guard (BGB). Shots were reportedly fired in the air so that a large group of people progress behind the zero line separating both countries.
The head officials of both forces reducing the boundaries hit the situation to de-eskal.
BSF, however, did not confirm reports of deportation or quarrel in men BGB.
In his statement, BSF said his staff observed the suspicious movement of Bangladesh nationals who were approaching the international border to cross. “BSF soldiers, who were quickly behaving, urged them to prevent their unauthorized entry into Indian territory. The Bangladesh crowd subsequently retreated to Bangladesh,” the statement said.
“BSF remains devoted to its mission to secure the boundaries of the nation and at the same time to observe humanitarian principles and international cooperation,” she said.
Deportee’s claim
Meanwhile, a man who was previously repatriated to Bangladesh after his detention in Assam claimed to be an Indian citizen. In the video message he claimed that his own land and a house in Assam.
He said he was forced to cross the border with others and had stuck in the field on the side of Bangladesh. “I was transported to the office of the Superintendent Police from the Detention Center and then accompanied without any explanation on the border of Mankachar,” he said.
