The delegation was led by BJP National Vice President and Mahila Morcha In-charge Daggubati Purandeswari and BJP Mahila Morcha National President Roop Kumari Chaudhary. The memorandum related to complaints filed by 11 female students against Mr. Akoyama and his subsequent dismissal by the university following an internal investigation.

After the meeting, Ms. Chaudhary said the delegation urged the NCW chairman to take note of the matter. She questioned the Congress party’s “silence” on the issue and called for action against the MP.

“The brave girls who brought this matter to light are still studying in the same institution. Hence, it is imperative to ensure their safety and security and that they face no future harm. Since he is a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, the Congress should have expelled Angomcha Bimol Akoijam from the party immediately as per the rules,” she said. The delegation also asked for a reference to the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha.
