The Calcutta High Court on Monday (May 18, 2026) granted TMC Revolution Falta Assembly candidate Jahangir Khan protection from any coercive action by the police till May 26 in connection with criminal cases filed against him.
Jahangir Khan on Monday (May 18, 2026) moved the Calcutta High Court and sought protection from any coercive police action after he alleged that criminal cases against him are constantly being framed.
Mr Khan’s legal counsel Kishore Dutta moved Saugata Bhattacharyya’s court and prayed for disclosure of all FIRs lodged against him and protection from coercive action.
The court ordered that no enforcement action be taken against Mr Khan in connection with the pending criminal proceedings until May 26.
Justice Bhattacharyya directed Mr. Khan to cooperate with the investigating agency and granted permission to the police to bring to the notice of the court any deviation from the petitioner’s order.
The court also ordered the Trinamool Congress candidate to follow the directions of the Election Commission and not to intimidate or block voters and other stakeholders. He was allowed to campaign for retaliation as time permitted under the model code of conduct.
Mr. Dutta, a former advocate general of West Bengal, informed the court that Mr. Khan is a candidate from the Falta Assembly constituency where the recall is scheduled for May 21.
The poll was canceled in Falta in South 24 Parganas district following allegations of widespread irregularities on April 29, the day of polling.
