PM Modi’s felicitation to Indian teams postpones BCCI IPL stakeholders meeting
BCCI’s scheduled meeting with IPL stakeholders scheduled for Thursday has been postponed, board secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on Tuesday. The board has called a meeting on October 15 to discuss matters relating to the IPL, which will celebrate its 20th season next year.
The change in schedule follows BCCI officials being invited to attend a function organized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 15. The Indian men’s and women’s teams will be felicitated for their gold medal campaign in the recently concluded Asian Games.
“The meeting with IPL franchise owners, CEOs, host state associations and IPL broadcasters scheduled to be held on October 15, 2026 in Mumbai has been postponed,” Saikia said in a BCCI statement.
“The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India is scheduled to felicitate the Indian men’s and women’s teams for their outstanding performances in the recently concluded 20th Asian Games to be held on October 15, 2026 in New Delhi. Accordingly, BCCI officials will be required to attend the function.”
Saikia added that several stakeholders had also approached the board to postpone the meeting.
“In view of the above and in view of facilitating maximum personal participation, it has been decided to postpone the meeting,” Saikia said.
The BCCI secretary added that details regarding the rescheduled session, including its date and venue, would be announced later.
PM Modi is scheduled to host Asian Games medalists, cricketers and other sportsmen at his residence on October 15. The interaction, which is scheduled for 4.30 pm, will see athletes from various disciplines coming together after their achievements on the international stage.
India finished fourth overall at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, securing 85 medals, including 21 gold. The contingent made a strong recovery in the latter stages of the competition, climbing from eighth to fourth, equaling their position from the previous year in Hangzhou.
The meet is expected to recognize the achievements of the athletes and celebrate India’s strong showing at the continental competition, which will bring together medalists from across a range of sporting disciplines.
