In a bid to ease internal tensions within the organisation, AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes) issued a formal notice to hear its former joint secretary Ansiba Hassan, who had recently raised the banner of rebellion by making serious allegations against the office bearers.

The notice urged Ms. Hassan to appear before the AMMA president and general secretary on any of the three days between June 1 and June 3. Ms. Hassan responded favorably and said she would appear on June 1 or any day after June 7.

A statement signed by president Shwetha Menon and general secretary Cuckoo Parameswaran said the AMMA executive committee had taken note of certain complaints and representations received by the association and had also published reports in recent days on the conduct of members and the way internal matters were handled.

“In particular, the Executive Committee has taken note of (i) your statements in the media regarding your tenure as Joint Secretary, the circumstances of your resignation and the conduct attributed to certain office bearers and members of the Executive Committee; and (ii) the written complaint you made when you appointed certain members of the Association. The Committee wishes to hear you directly on these matters so that the issues raised by you may be further fairly investigated and brought forward.” in advance, a copy of any documents, communications or other materials referred to in your public statements and in your complaint for the consideration of the same by the Executive Committee,” the notice said.

Charge

Ms. Hassan accused actor Tiny Tom and some officials of subjecting her to alleged character assassination and making communal remarks directed at her. She also accused AMMA Vice President Lakshmi Priya of filing a false police complaint against her.

In her response to the notice, Ms Hassan called for the establishment of a three-member independent panel or commission for a “fair and impartial” hearing. She recommended the names of Ramesh Pisharody, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Maala Parvathi “or any unbiased personality”. She further insisted that the entire hearing process be recorded and preserved in AMMA’s official records. She said this was necessary to ensure justice as her allegations were against the president, vice president and executive member of AMMA.

She added that since her complaint against the executive amounted to overt criminal acts, she decided to initiate legal proceedings and press charges against the alleged perpetrator, saying that he “publicly humiliated me and outraged my modesty in front of other members of the association and the general public”.

Ms. Hassan has already filed complaints with the concerned authorities, including the Chief Minister, regarding the alleged VP conspiracy involving a sub-inspector at Tripunithura police station, alleging that her fundamental rights were violated. The vice president reportedly claimed in an online meeting of the executive committee that the president helped her in this matter.

“I was illegally detained at the police station for more than three hours and subjected to unnecessary interrogation, harassment and mental agony based on a false and maliciously fabricated complaint,” Ms. Hassan said in her reply.
