Tukaram Mundhe denies transfer reports, says to continue as Maharashtra FDA chief despite MPSC probe post | Today’s news
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Maharashtra chief Tukaram Mundhe said on social media that he has not been transferred from the FDA, refuting reports that he has been removed from the post.
“I continue to serve as Commissioner FDA Maharashtra,” Mundhe said in a social media post on Monday, adding, “Our fight against unsafe, substandard, adulterated food and fake, substandard drugs continues.”
“I continue to work as Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Maharashtra. Our fight against adulterated food and substandard drugs continues unabated,” Mundhe also said.
The news comes after the Maharashtra government appointed Mundhe as the secretary of a committee to probe alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) checks.
The MPSC aspirants staged a protest for 10 days and ended their agitation only late Sunday night after this committee was formed.
MPSC Chairman Vivek Bhimanwar subsequently announced that he would be on leave until the investigation was concluded.
The committee formed under Mundhe will also have former judge Dilip Bhosale as its chairman. The other members would be IPS officer Laxmi Gautam, retired IAS officer Ganesh Patil and retired judge PD Naik.
“Good governance to make a difference”: Mundhe
Mundhe has now become arguably the most popular civil servant in India today after his forays into Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra to ensure compliance with food safety norms.
Foreign publications have also noted his growing popularity, with the New York Times calling him a ‘Rock Star’.
Mundhe shared the story himself on social media, saying, “Good governance is not about making headlines. It’s about making a difference.”
“Ultimately, food safety is about protecting people, upholding standards and building public confidence.”
“When enforcement is fair, fearless and consistent, institutions gain credibility and citizens begin to believe that the system works,” he added.
Maha FDA launches ‘Eat Right’ campaign.
Maharashtra FDA will launch ‘Eat Right’ movement to promote food safety, improve dietary habits and educate people about the food they consume, Mundhe announced on Saturday.
This initiative would consist of programs such as Right Eating Schools, Right Eating Places and Right Food Worship Places, along with digital campaigns to encourage people to make informed food choices.
“Ultimately, it’s not about regulation; it’s about eating habits, what we eat, what we consume day in and day out, what our children eat and consume. We should know what to eat, how to eat and how much to eat,” Mundhe said at the India Today Conclave Mumbai 2026.
