BJP state unit president Nainar Nagenthran said on Monday that relations between the Union government and Tamil Nadu are cordial.

When asked about his presence on the dais along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Chennai on Sunday, though he was not an elected representative or held any official position during the press conference here, he said, “I can’t comment on that. Any VIP who has been invited can go.”

On state-centre relations, Mr. Nagenthran recalled that Mr. Modi held the hands of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and the two inaugurated various projects together. Mr. Vijay’s demands were also those of the BJP in the state, he added.

When it was pointed out that the Chief Minister had visited the airport to welcome the Prime Minister, Mr. Nagenthran said that Mr. Vijay had followed the tradition. When asked about the scarf presented by the BJP leader to Mr. Vijay, he appealed against trivializing the gesture.

Mr. Nagenthran added that the law and order situation in the state was not good and urged the Chief Minister to focus on solving the problem.
