WPL history maker returns. The USA pacer has joined the Mumbai Indians for the 2027 edition

American left-arm pacer Tara Norris will represent Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2027 Women’s Premier League (WPL) after being traded from UP Warriorz, the franchise has confirmed. Norris will join the five-time champions for an existing fee of Rs 10 crore, marking her return to the tournament after making history in its inaugural edition.

Norris became first bowler to take five wickets in WPL history when she took 4-0-29-5 for Delhi Capitals against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 5 March 2023. Her sensational spell helped Delhi Capitals secure an impressive 60-run victory after posting 223/2.

The American pacer dismissed Ellyse Perry, Disha Kasat, Richa Ghosh, Kanika Ahuja and Heather Knight to register the first five-wicket haul of the tournament. She was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.

Norris also made history at the inaugural WPL auction by becoming the first player from an associate country to be selected by the franchise. Her selection marked a momentous moment for women players from emerging cricketing nations, opening up opportunities for them to play in one of the premier women’s T20 leagues. DELHI TO BOMBAY

Norris represented Delhi Capitals in the inaugural season of the WPL in 2023 and took seven wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 8.09. Before joining the UP Warriorz in the WPL 2026 auction for a base price of Rs 10 crore, she did not feature in the following teams of the franchise. However, she missed the season after being selected for the US Women’s T20 World Cup qualification campaign.

Her move to Mumbai Indians gives Norris another opportunity to make a name for herself in the WPL with a franchise that has won the title five times.

NORRIS’ US RECORD

Norris was a key bowling option for the United States in international cricket. She has taken 21 wickets in 17 Women’s T20 Internationals, with best figures of 4/33 against Scotland in Kirtipur earlier this year. Her left-arm pace provides variation and allows her to harass batsmen with movement and angle changes.

She has also played five women’s ODIs since her debut in 2024, taking seven wickets at an economy rate of 4.33.

Norris will now look to translate his international experience into another successful WPL campaign as he begins a new chapter with the Mumbai Indians.
