BJP in Karnataka lays siege to police stations and SP offices if FIRs against its workers continue

BJP state president BY Vijayendra on Sunday said that the BJP has decided to lay siege to police stations as well as the offices of Superintendents of Police if the government continues to file FIRs against party workers in connection with the Form 7 issue.

In a press briefing after the party’s state central committee meeting in the presence of newly appointed co-chairman Kasam Venkateshwarlu, he said that the Congress government in Karnataka had created confusion regarding the SIR in general and Form 7 in particular. He said that the Karnataka High Court had impeached the state government in view of filing an FIR against BJP workers.

He said the party’s core committee opposed the government’s decision to extend the power to issue permanent resident certificate in view of SIR even to Panchayat Development Officers and Municipal Commissioners.

Arguing that such power should be vested only in officers of the rank of tahsildars and above, he said the party would write to the government to withdraw such powers, besides bringing to the notice of the Election Commission of India in this regard.

He said the core committee expressed the view that the party should field its candidate in the upcoming assembly elections by taking its coalition partner, the JD(S), into confidence.

He urged the government to desist from postponing the rural local body elections. The core committee decided to appoint an in-charge leader for each district to monitor the party’s preparations for the taluk and zilla panchayat polls. Besides, a polling station management committee would also be set up in each district as per the directions of the central committee, he said.

A meeting of party civil servants was also held on the occasion.
