At least eight people suffered injuries on Imphal on Sunday after the security forces plunged smoke bombs and tear gas to distract the protesters who were on their way to Raj Bhavan in the afternoon over the state directive. The alleged State Directive asked to remove the “manipur” from the State Transport (MST) bus (MST) operating at the Shiri festival in Ukhrulu, Hindustan Times said.
According to the report, the demonstrators gathered in Khwairamband Keithel after receiving the call by the Cocomi Coordination Committee (COCOMI), the covering of the Meitei groups to protest the Bhawan on Raj Bhawan.
However, they were stopped by a 500 -meter security staff near Kangla Western Gate, which fired the wheels of smoke bombs to dispel them. At least eight were injured in the incident. Injuries, including women, were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Why did the protesters march to Raj Bhawan?
Demonstrators planned to remedy agitation that requires an apology to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhally over his refusal to apologize for the removal of the name of the state from the government bus.
Cocomi announced that it would set a nationwide protest. She also asked for the resignation of the Chief Secretary, CEO (DGP) and a security advisor.
