Prakash Rajpurohit Appointed Deputy Election Commissioner: Know About IAS Officer | Today’s news
Senior bureaucrat Prakash Rajpurohit has been appointed Deputy Election Commissioner in a major reshuffle of senior government officials by the Center on Saturday. Rajpurohit will hold the position until April 8, 2030. He replaces Sanjay Kumar.
Who is Prakash Rajpurohit?
Born on 28 February 1986, Rajpurohit is a 2010 batch Rajasthan cadre IAS officer. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
Before his latest appointment, Rajpurohit served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defense in the Ministry of Defense for Production.
Previously, he worked as a director in the economic department of the Ministry of Finance, where he was in charge of matters related to international investment treaties.
During his tenure in the Rajasthan government, Rajpurohit held several administrative and political positions. His duties included district administration, business taxes and the post of Excise Commissioner.
With effect from September 17, 2026, he was also appointed to the BDL board of directors.
Other key meetings in the framework of bureaucratic restructuring
Along with Rajpurohit’s appointment, Vivek Khare, a 1996-batch officer of the Indian Telecommunication Service, has been appointed as joint secretary of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of 27 civil servants at the level of joint secretary and equivalent posts in various ministries and organizations.
Ravi Shanakar, Chittaranjan Dash, P Manoj Kumar and Abhishek Bhagotia have been appointed as joint secretaries in the home ministry.
Mohammed Y Safirulla K and Ritu Sharma will take over as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Varnali Deka, an IAS officer of the 2009 batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has been appointed as the joint secretary of the National Health Authority. More Ashish Madhaorao will serve as the office’s next executive director at the joint secretary level.
Appointments across ministries and government bodies
Nikhil Varma has been appointed as the additional Director General of Foreign Trade in Delhi, while Tanvi Sundriyal will serve as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Inderjeet Singh has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Culture.
Senior IAS officer Tamboli Ayyaj Fakirbhai has been appointed as the Executive Director of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) at the level of Joint Secretary. Rajesh Malik has been appointed as the Managing Director of Food Corporation of India, while Navin Agarwal will serve as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Legal Affairs.

The reshuffle also includes the appointment of Brijesh Pandey as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Capital Development and M Ramachandrudu as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
Meanwhile, Sonia Pant has been appointed as an advisor at the NITI Aayog at the level of joint secretary.
Nitin Kumar has been appointed as Additional Secretary (JS Level), Central Vigilance Commission; C Muruganas as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways; Rajneesh Kumar Tomar as Managing Director of National Highways Logistics Management Ltd; and Nishtha Tiwari as Director General, Development and Social Security Council for Designated Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Communities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Manisha Trighatia will be Joint Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development; Avinash Jain will be Joint Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation; Pawan Kumar will be Joint Secretary, National Directorate of River Conservation; and Anita Shah Akella to be Joint Secretary of the National Commission for Women.
In a separate order dated October 9, the ACC approved the higher education ministry’s proposal for early repatriation of Govind Jaiswal, joint secretary, higher education ministry, to its parent cadre.
Jaiswal is a 2007 batch IAS officer in AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre.
