On this Dasara: MCC is not a single-use plastic
In view of Dasara-2026, Mysore City Corporation has come up with guidelines for Dasara program organizers, tourists, stall holders, vendors and public against using banned single-use plastics during the event.
The use of single-use plastics is prohibited, especially at gastronomic events, flower shows, exhibitions, cultural extravaganzas and sports activities. Plastic cup, spoon, thermos must be replaced with reusable and eco-friendly products like plates made from arecanut leaves, MCC said in a report.
Organizers must ensure that prohibited plastics are not used in food stalls or other shops. Customers must be encouraged to bring cloth bags. To reduce the burden of plastic waste, the public and tourists must use reusable water bottles. “It is mandatory to carry out source segregation of dry and wet waste before handing over waste to sanitation workers. Dumping of waste into drains and public places is prohibited,” MCC warned in a statement.
MCC will conduct regular inspection across the city and action will be taken against those who have not followed the guidelines, he said in a press release.
