A fresh attack ignites a fire in Terminal 4
The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen reported a new incident at Riyadh airport on Sunday, saying an unidentified projectile hit Terminal 4 and caused a fire. The news came a day after a deadly attack on the airport forced authorities to suspend operations while damage and security assessments were carried out.
The latest incident has raised concerns about the security of Saudi Arabia’s aviation infrastructure, with the airport facing several attacks over the course of the week. Reuters reported that Saturday’s attack was the deadliest of its kind in the kingdom in more than a decade.
The Houthis renew warnings to airlines and passengers
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement on Sunday renewed its warning to airlines, airport staff and passengers, urging them to stay away from Saudi airports and airspace. The group said the warning did not apply to airports in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
The warning comes amid escalating fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces. Saudi Arabia has backed a military campaign against the group that has heightened tensions across the region.
The attacks also raised international concern over the targeting of civilian infrastructure. India has strongly condemned the repeated attacks on the Riyadh airport, calling it unacceptable and calling for an immediate halt to the attacks that cause civilian casualties and damage. New Delhi also expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and condoled with the families of those killed.
As the situation develops, the Indian embassy said it remains in contact with local authorities and hospitals to monitor the condition of injured citizens and assist those affected by the attack.
