The Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) is expanding its operations beyond a single area to cover Chandragiri, Tirupati, Srikalahasti and Nagari constituencies, speeding up development to meet future needs, said its chairman and former member of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) C. Divakar Reddy.
Mr. Divakar Reddy along with Chandragiri MLA Pulivarthi Nani announced that comprehensive plans are being implemented to make Tirupati the highest district in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Minister Nara Lokesh at a press conference at the Tirupati Press Club on Saturday.
“We are coordinating with all local MLAs and prioritizing public needs. We are developing state-of-the-art roads, drainage systems and street lighting systems to cater to thousands of pilgrims visiting Tirupati and ensure that they do not face inconvenience due to traffic jams. We have started work on eight 19-km master plan roads in the city at a cost of ₹200 crore.
“A wide road (80-100 feet) is being constructed in Shettipalli area and the plan will be made available in the next three months. After discussions with Chandragiri MLA about the problems faced by residents in the layout and land of Daminedu area, we have decided to provide comprehensive road infrastructure here,” the TUDA chief said.
“Work is underway on a 2.5-km road at a cost of ₹90 crore – funded by TTD – to resolve traffic and parking problems at the Tiruchanur temple, which attracts nearly 50,000 devotees daily. Dedicated parking spaces are being allotted for pilgrims’ vehicles and a special corridor is being created on the roads to avoid traffic jams,” he informed.
A 100 feet wide and 6.8 km long greenfield road is being constructed to connect the Madanapalle-Tirupati and Tirupati-Bengaluru highways, running from Kalyani Dam through Rangampeta, Kotala and Aitepalli. To meet the water needs of the city’s residents, after several checks with the MLA, plans were finalized to provide water supply from the Peruru reservoir to the Avilala reservoir at a cost of ₹ 30 crore.
