Crew, commuters injured after SETC bus plunges into pit near Ambur

The crew of a State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus and 20 commuters were injured after the bus plunged into a pothole on the Chennai – Bengaluru highway (NH 48) at Jamin village near Ambur town in Tirupattur on Wednesday.

Police said the bus carrying 46 commuters, including women and children, was on its way to Bengaluru when the bus driver G. Selva Murugan (32), a native of Thoothukudi, suddenly lost control of the vehicle. The bus plunged into a roadside pit around 2:30 a.m. Along with the bus crew, commuters were injured in the incident.

Police said passers-by and patrol police rescued the injured commuters. They were admitted to Government Taluk Hospital in Ambur town for treatment. After being informed, the Ambur Taluk police inspected the spot and the damaged bus was towed away.
