CJP protest in Delhi Day 2: Which roads to avoid around Connaught Place, Mandi House today? What commuters should know | Today’s news
Traffic restrictions and security checks will continue in Delhi for the second consecutive day on Sunday, October 11, in view of the prevailing law and order situation following a fresh call by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) for demonstrations demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory late on Saturday, warning commuters of dynamic diversions at 30 key locations in Delhi, starting from 6 am on Sunday.
Why do traffic restrictions continue on Sundays?
The widened curbs follow declarations by the CJP and major student organisations, including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), confirming that their agitation will continue until their demands are met.
At a press conference at HKS Surjeet Bhawan on Saturday, CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde announced that marches to Jantar Mantar will be held daily until Kumar is removed as Chief Election Commissioner.
Shinde also alleged that detained protesters, including party founder Abhijeet Dipke, were subjected to inhumane treatment while in Delhi police custody.
Joining the call, SFI General Secretary Srijan Bhattacharyya said that the students will maintain peaceful demonstrations, adding that wherever police barricades stop their march, those very places will serve as their protest sites.
Which roads and junctions will be affected?
Traffic is expected to be severely affected around Lutyens’ Delhi and Central Delhi, especially around Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place, Mandi House and Patel Chowk, according to an advisory by the Delhi Traffic Police.
Primary sections and intersections facing diversions and heavy traffic include:
