Quick action by the home owner helped two children escape unhurt in a fire at their residence in Belagavi on Saturday.
The fire broke out at Sridevi Joshi’s house in Sahyadri Nagar, where she had rented the first floor to Roopa Nashipudi, who lived there with her two children. On Saturday, Roopa left home for the temple for ‘amavasya’ (new moon day) leaving her two children at home and locking the door from outside.
After a while, a fire broke out in the house, allegedly due to a short circuit. When Sridevi’s house owner heard the cries for help from the terrified children, he rushed to their rescue and evacuated them safely from the smoke-filled house, sources said.
Belagavi APMC police have registered a case and investigation is on.
