Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila on Saturday accused the BJP-led NDA government at the Center of undermining democracy by allegedly unauthorized erasure of voters’ names during the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
She was placed under house arrest at her Gannavaram residence and police prevented her from leaving to attend her party’s ‘Chalo Lok Bhavan’ protest calling for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). Subsequently, Ms. Sharmila staged a squatting dharna on the road.
“Modi means ‘killer of democratic India’,” she said, criticizing alleged irregularities in the voter review process.
Ms. Sharmila appealed to the people of Delhi to file Form 7 seeking deletion of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s vote to understand the plight of voters whose names were deleted without their knowledge.
