Vehicular patrolling on highways will be strengthened in Tirupati

In view of the general increase in road accidents, the district administration has taken measures to increase vehicular patrolling on the highways leading to Tirupati.
Tirupati District Police has received special road safety equipment and drug testing kits to be used on highways and mobile patrol vehicles. District Collector S. Venkateswar and Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu handed over the same to the police personnel in charge of road surveillance on Wednesday.
The crew of the five mobile traffic safety vehicles received safety reflective vests, traffic lights, safety cones, rolls of radio reflective tape, in addition to water bottles, sunglasses, caps and flashlights. The drug testing kits were handed over to the police, who were also briefed on their use.
Mr. Venkateswar announced that 43 black spots have been identified on the highways in the district, while protective measures like laying of speed brakes, warning boards and radio signals have been taken at 20 of them.
Mr. Subbarayudu said 4,500 kg of ganja was seized and destroyed last month and 10,000 units of rapid ganja testing kits were handed over to the department.
