Zimbabwe Women announce squad for historic white-ball tour of India
Zimbabwe Women have announced a 15-member squad for their historic white-ball tour of India, the first ever bilateral series between the two nations. Captain Josephine Nkomo will lead the side in a task that gives Zimbabwe an opportunity to build on their recent breakthrough in international cricket.
The tour will feature three T20Is followed by three ODIs, with the ODI series forming part of the ICC Women’s Championship. The T20I matches will be played on October 16, 18 and 20 at Nava Raipur in Chhattisgarh before the action moves to the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium in Vadodara for the ODIs on October 23, 25 and 28.
Zimbabwe will enter the series with renewed confidence after recording a landmark victory over West Indies Women at the Harare Sports Club. The four-wicket triumph was particularly significant as it secured Zimbabwe’s first ever win against the West Indies and their first win in the ICC Women’s Championship.
HISTORIC WEST INDIES WIN ZIMBABWE’S AMBITION
The historic result showed Zimbabwe’s ability to compete with established international opposition. Disciplined bowling, energetic fielding and composure during a tough run proved decisive as the hosts secured a memorable victory.
Nyasha Gwanzura played a key role in this success, producing career-best figures of 4 for 33 to spearhead Zimbabwe’s bowling effort. She was retained in the squad along with Michelle Mavunga and Francisca Chipare as the team prepares for the challenge of facing India.
The batting line-up consists of Modester Mupachikwa, Sharne Mayers, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Kelis Ndhlovu and Beloved Biza, giving this side a mix of experience and options across the order. Nkomo and Nomvelo Sibanda will also bring valuable international experience to the campaign.

The six-match tour will test Zimbabwe against a formidable Indian side, especially in the ODI format where championship points will be at stake. The T20I will offer an early opportunity to assess combinations and build momentum before the focus shifts to the longer white-ball format.
But for Zimbabwe, the tour represents more than just another international assignment. Their recent breakthrough against the West Indies showed the progress they are making and the historic series against India offers another platform to gauge that development.
With Nkomo at the helm, Zimbabwe will be hoping to take the confidence from their landmark win into the series and make the most of a momentous opportunity in their cricketing journey.
